My final major project, made while studying at college, was a music video to the song 'Let Go Be Free' by Warbly Jets. The song is very synth-heavy, and lyrically, it is about not fighting against your own nature and instead letting go of the things that bring you down in order to free yourself. I wanted the video to reflect this idea of letting go and escaping into a bright, colourful reality.
This project was the first and only documentary I have made so far. The brief was to create a film exploring culture in whatever shape or form I chose. I decided to investigate how music streaming services have impacted music subcultures. This project was very varied and involved interviewing the public, as well as conducting specific interviews with a record store owner, two musicians and a member of the team from Soundcloud. As a finished piece, I think it explores the subject in a substantial amount of detail and presents a well-rounded discussion.
This interview was with a Veteran named Jen Price and is about her time in service as well as a series of challenges she was doing to raise money for the Veterans Foundation. I operated the secondary camera during the interviews, shot some of the B-roll and generally helped with setting up the kit throughout the day.
This project was actually commissioned by the secondary school I attended. The school was putting on a dance competition starring the teaching staff and they wanted some interviews filming along with footage of the event that they could use. During the filming of this, numerous school buildings where damaged by a hurricane and it seemed unlikely that the show would go on. However, the team pulled through and I found that there was a really compelling story about overcoming adversity here that I felt deserved to be told. So, after the event I took all the footage I had gathered and put together this short film for the school.
This final video isn't a finished project like the others. Instead, this is more of a collection of test footage that I gathered in order to test out some vintage lenses.
